Nitzavim /You Are Standing

Shabbat Shalom!

Welcome to Parasha Nitzavim /You Are Standing, this week’s Torah portion.

Torah Reading

Deuteronomy 29:9 (10)–30:20;

9 (10) “Today you are standing, all of you, before YAHUVEH your ELOHIM — your heads, your tribes, your leaders and your officers — all the men of Isra’el, 10 (11) along with your little ones, your wives and your foreigners here with you in your camp, from the one who chops your wood to the one who draws your water. 11 (12) The purpose is that you should enter into the covenant of YAHUVEH your ELOHIM and into his oath which YAHUVEH your ELOHIM is making with you today, (LY: ii) 12 (13) so that he can establish you today for himself as a people, and so that for you he will be God — as he said to you and as he swore to your ancestors, to Avraham, Yitz’chak and Ya‘akov.

13 (14) “But I am not making this covenant and this oath only with you. 14 (15) Rather, I am making it both with him who is standing here with us today before YAHUVEH our ELOHIM and also with him who is not here with us today. (LY: iii) 15 (16) For you know how we lived in the land of Egypt and how we came directly through the nations you passed through; 16 (17) and you saw their detestable things and their idols of wood, stone, silver and gold that they had with them. 17 (18) So let there not be among you a man, woman, family or tribe whose heart turns away today from YAHUVEH our ELOHIM to go and serve the gods of those nations. Let there not be among you a root bearing such bitter poison and wormwood. 18 (19) If there is such a person, when he hears the words of this curse, he will bless himself secretly, saying to himself, ‘I will be all right, even though I will stubbornly keep doing whatever I feel like doing; so that I, although “dry,” [sinful,] will be added to the “watered” [righteous].’ 19 (20) But YAHUVEH will not forgive him. Rather, the anger and jealousy of YAHUVEH will blaze up against that person. Every curse written in this book will be upon him. YAHUVEH will blot out his name from under heaven. 20 (21) YAHUVEH will single him out from all the tribes of Isra’el to experience what is bad in all the curses of the covenant written in this book of the Torah.

21 (22) “When the next generation, your children who will grow up after you, and the foreigner who arrives from a distant land, see the plagues of that land and the diseases with which YAHUVEH has made it sick, 22 (23) and that the whole land has become burning sulfur and salt, that it isn’t being sown or bearing crops or even producing grass — like the overthrow of S’dom, ‘Amora, Admah and Tzvoyim, which YAHUVEH overthrew in his furious anger — 23 (24) then all the nations will ask, ‘Why did YAHUVEH do this to this land? What is the meaning of such frenzied, furious anger?’ 24 (25) People will answer, ‘It’s because they abandoned the covenant of YAHUVEH, the God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them out of the land of Egypt. 25 (26) They went and served other gods, prostrating themselves before them, gods they had not known and which he had not assigned them. 26 (27) For this reason, the anger of YAHUVEH blazed up against this land and brought upon it every curse written in this book; 27 (28) and YAHUVEH, in anger, fury and incensed with indignation, uprooted them from their land and threw them out into another land — as it is today.’

28 (29) “Things which are hidden belong to YAHUVEH our ELOHIM. But the things that have been revealed belong to us and our children forever, so that we can observe all the words of this Torah.

30 (RY: ii, LY: iv) “When the time arrives that all these things have come upon you, both the blessing and the curse which I have presented to you; and you are there among the nations to which YAHUVEH your ELOHIM has driven you; then, at last, you will start thinking about what has happened to you; 2 and you will return to YAHUVEH your ELOHIM and pay attention to what he has said, which will be exactly what I am ordering you to do today — you and your children, with all your heart and all your being. 3 At that point, YAHUVEH your ELOHIM will reverse your exile and show you mercy; he will return and gather you from all the peoples to which YAHUVEH your ELOHIM scattered you. 4 If one of yours was scattered to the far end of the sky, YAHUVEH your ELOHIM will gather you even from there; he will go there and get you. 5 YAHUVEH your ELOHIM will bring you back into the land your ancestors possessed, and you will possess it; he will make you prosper there, and you will become even more numerous than your ancestors. 6 Then YAHUVEH your ELOHIM will circumcise your hearts and the hearts of your children, so that you will love YAHUVEH your ELOHIM with all your heart and all your being, and thus you will live. (RY: iii, LY: v) 7 YAHUVEH your ELOHIM will put all these curses on your enemies, on those who hated and persecuted you; 8 but you will return and pay attention to what YAHUVEH says and obey all his mitzvot which I am giving you today. 9 Then YAHUVEH your ELOHIM will give you more than enough in everything you set out to do — the fruit of your body, the fruit of your livestock, and the fruit of your land will all do well; for YAHUVEH will once again rejoice to see you do well, just as he rejoiced in your ancestors.

10 “However, all this will happen only if you pay attention to what YAHUVEH your ELOHIM says, so that you obey his mitzvot and regulations which are written in this book of the Torah, if you turn to YAHUVEH your ELOHIM with all your heart and all your being. (LY: vi) 11 For this mitzvah which I am giving you today is not too hard for you, it is not beyond your reach. 12 It isn’t in the sky, so that you need to ask, ‘Who will go up into the sky for us, bring it to us and make us hear it, so that we can obey it?’ 13 Likewise, it isn’t beyond the sea, so that you need to ask, ‘Who will cross the sea for us, bring it to us and make us hear it, so that we can obey it?’ 14 On the contrary, the word is very close to you — in your mouth, even in your heart; therefore, you can do it!

(RY: iv, LY: vii) 15 “Look! I am presenting you today with, on the one hand, life and good; and on the other, death and evil — 16 in that I am ordering you today to love YAHUVEH your ELOHIM, to follow his ways, and to obey his mitzvot, regulations and rulings ; for if you do, you will live and increase your numbers; and YAHUVEH your ELOHIM will bless you in the land you are entering in order to take possession of it. 17 But if your heart turns away, if you refuse to listen, if you are drawn away to prostrate yourselves before other gods and serve them; (LY: Maftir) 18 I am announcing to you today that you will certainly perish; you will not live long in the land you are crossing the Yarden to enter and possess.

19 “I call on heaven and earth to witness against you today that I have presented you with life and death, the blessing and the curse. Therefore, choose life, so that you will live, you and your descendants, 20 loving YAHUVEH your ELOHIM, paying attention to what he says and clinging to him — for that is the purpose of your life! On this depends the length of time you will live in the land YAHUVEH swore he would give to your ancestors Avraham, Yitz’chak and Ya‘akov.”

Prophetic Reading

Isaiah 61:10–63:9;

I am so joyful in YAHUVEH!
My soul rejoices in my ELOHIM,
for he has clothed me in salvation,
dressed me with a robe of triumph,
like a bridegroom wearing a festive turban,
like a bride adorned with her jewels.
11
For just as the earth brings forth its plants,
or a garden makes its plants spring up,
so YAHUVEH, ELOHIM, will cause victory and glory
to spring up before all nations.

62 For Tziyon’s sake I will not be silent,
for Yerushalayim’s sake I will not rest,
until her vindication shines out brightly
and her salvation like a blazing torch.
2
The nations will see your vindication
and all kings your glory.
Then you will be called by a new name
which YAHUVEH himself will pronounce.
3
You will be a glorious crown in the hand of YAHUVEH,
a royal diadem held by your ELOHIM.
4
You will no longer be spoken of as ‘Azuvah [Abandoned]
or your land be spoken of as ‘Sh’mamah [Desolate];
rather, you will be called Heftzi-Vah [My-Delight-Is-In-Her]
and your land Be‘ulah [Married].
For YAHUVEH delights in you,
and your land will be married —
5
as a young man marries a young woman,
your sons will marry you;
as a bridegroom rejoices over the bride,
your ELOHIM will rejoice over you.

6
I have posted watchmen
on your walls, Yerushalayim;
they will never fall silent,
neither by day nor by night.
You who call on YAHUVEH,
give yourselves no rest;
7
and give him no rest till he restores Yerushalayim
and makes it a praise on earth.
8
YAHUVEH has sworn by his right hand
and by his mighty arm:
“Never again will I give your grain
to your enemies as food;
nor will strangers drink your wine,
for which you worked so hard;
9
but those who harvest the grain will eat it
with praises to YAHUVEH;
those who gathered the wine will drink it
in the courtyards of my sanctuary.”

10
Go on through, go on through the gates,
clear the way for the people!
Build up a highway, build it up!
Clear away the stones!
Raise a banner for the peoples!
11
YAHUVEH has proclaimed to the end of the earth,
“Say to the daughter of Tziyon,
‘Here, your Salvation is coming!
Here, his reward is with him,
and his recompense is before him.’”
12
They will call them The Holy People,
The Redeemed of YAHUVEH.
You will be called D’rushah [Sought-After],
‘Ir Lo Ne‘ezvah [City-No-Longer-Abandoned].

63 Who is this, coming from Edom,
from Botzrah with clothing stained crimson,
so magnificently dressed,
so stately in his great strength?

“It is I, who speak victoriously,
I, well able to save.”

2
Why is your apparel red,
your clothes like someone treading a winepress?

3
“I have trodden the winepress alone;
from the peoples, not one was with me.
So I trod them in my anger,
trampled them in my fury;
so their lifeblood spurted out on my clothing,
and I have stained all my garments;
4
for the day of vengeance that was in my heart
and my year of redemption have come.
5
I looked, but there was no one to help,
and I was appalled that no one upheld me.
Therefore my own arm brought me salvation,
and my own fury upheld me.
6
In my anger I trod down the peoples,
made them drunk with my fury,
then poured out their lifeblood on the earth.”

7
I will recall the grace of YAHUVEH
and the praises of YAHUVEH,
because of all that YAHUVEH has granted us
and his great goodness toward the house of Isra’el,
which he bestowed on them in keeping with his mercy,
in keeping with the greatness of his grace.
8
For he said, “They are indeed my people,
children who are not disloyal.”
So he became their Savior.
9
In all their troubles he was troubled;
then the Angel of His Presence saved them;
in his love and pity he redeemed them.

He had lifted them up and carried them
throughout the days of old.

Romans 10:1–21;

10 Brothers, my heart’s deepest desire and my prayer to God for Isra’el is for their salvation; 2 for I can testify to their zeal for God. But it is not based on correct understanding; 3 for, since they are unaware of God’s way of making people righteous and instead seek to set up their own, they have not submitted themselves to God’s way of making people righteous. 4 For the goal at which the Torah aims is the Messiah, who offers righteousness to everyone who trusts. 5 For Moshe writes about the righteousness grounded in the Torah that the person who does these things will attain life through them.[a] 6 Moreover, the righteousness grounded in trusting says:

“Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend to heaven?’” —

that is, to bring the Messiah down — 7 or,

“‘Who will descend into Sh’ol?’” —

that is, to bring the Messiah up from the dead. 8 What, then, does it say?

“The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart.”[b] —

that is, the word about trust which we proclaim, namely, 9 that if you acknowledge publicly with your mouth that YAHUSHUA is Lord and trust in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be delivered. 10 For with the heart one goes on trusting and thus continues toward righteousness, while with the mouth one keeps on making public acknowledgement and thus continues toward deliverance. 11 For the passage quoted says that everyone who rests his trust on him will not be humiliated.[c] 12 That means that there is no difference between Jew and Gentile — YAHUVEH is the same for everyone, rich toward everyone who calls on him, 13 since everyone who calls on the name of YAHUVEH will be delivered.[d]

14 But how can they call on someone if they haven’t trusted in him? And how can they trust in someone if they haven’t heard about him? And how can they hear about someone if no one is proclaiming him? 15 And how can people proclaim him unless God sends them? — as the Tanakh puts it, “How beautiful are the feet of those announcing good news about good things!”[e]

16 The problem is that they haven’t all paid attention to the Good News and obeyed it. For Yesha‘yahu says,

“YAHUVEH, who has trusted what he has heard from us?”[f]

17 So trust comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through a word proclaimed about the Messiah.

18 “But, I say, isn’t it rather that they didn’t hear?” No, they did hear —

“Their voice has gone out throughout the whole world
and their words to the ends of the earth.”[g]

19
“But, I say, isn’t it rather that Isra’el didn’t understand?”

“I will provoke you to jealousy over a non-nation,
over a nation void of understanding I will make you angry.”[h]

20
Moreover, Yesha‘yahu boldly says,

“I was found by those who were not looking for me,
I became known to those who did not ask for me”;[i]

21
but to Isra’el he says,

“All day long I held out my hands
to a people who kept disobeying and contradicting.”[j]

AmightyWind Prophecies;

This is from Prophecy 105, YAHUVEH said to put this up on all Prophecies from now on: I warned you a long time ago Elisabeth (Elisheva) not to name this Ministry after a man or a woman even before there was a Ministry. I put it in your spirit for none of this has been done by your hand, none of this has come forth from your mouth. It is from the Mouth of YAHUVEH that has given birth. It is from the Mouth of YAHUSHUA your MASHIACH that has given birth. It is from the Mouth of the RUACH ha KODESH your IMMAYAH that has given birth. If it had only been by your hand it would have failed long ago. It is by the SHKHINYAH GLORY’S Wind that blows across this earth, the Holy Wind of Revival, it is not by your breath or it would have failed. (Isaiah 42:8)

Torah Portion: Free To Choose Life In Adversity
Prophecy 36 I Am Not Only Your God Of Yesterday, Today, But Tomorrow, Even In The Darkest Hour
Seek the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob the God of Israel while I can yet be found. I am speaking not in a loud voice to your Spirits but a still small voice for those that care enough to incline their ears to ME and strain you shall hear ME speak. Is it worth it to you to care enough to lean closer to ME as I whisper MY instructions to you? Is it worth it when MY RUACH ha KODESH says to fast, you are to fast to be able to hear ME more clearly?

Oh MY Little Ones, how I long to cradle you in MY arms yet you shun MY very touch. For MY touch is Holy and for ME to touch you convicts you. So I must touch you in a way I would rather not, like a Father spanking a child I shall get your attention one way or another. But those who trust in ME, those who long for MY touch, I shall shelter you and protect you. I shall cradle you in MY arms and nurse you like a mother nursing a wounded child. I tell you MY beloved the coming days shall not be a thing to dread as long as you keep your faith in the God you worship, love, serve, and strive to obey. I shall not leave nor forsake you! Do not fear man instead fear the God you serve. If you are not listening for MY voice you shall miss your directions.

As Lot was refused entrance by the angel warning him not to enter, so too when I say flee from whatever country you’re in, then OBEY! I shall send you angels disguised as men and women and they shall speak forth MY Words but be deceived not. If it doesn’t line up with the word of “I AM”, if the RUACH ha KODESH is not found in them, then do not listen to anyone that is not worshipping, serving, loving, putting ME first in all ways! For the enemy will send those that look holy and talk holy and yet listen close to the words they speak. Are they encouraging you to stay in faith, to remain living holy, to follow MY laws of old? Which have never become outdated for MY laws, MY Torah is ageless. Are they preaching another gospel that says there is another way to Heaven and you don’t need the Blood of MY Son YAHUSHUA to get there? If they are telling you to follow man’s laws and throw away MY laws then I tell you this, I have not sent them to guide you or mentor you in anyway.
I leave you with these words, “Have you done all you can to help this handmaiden in the ministry I have placed upon her shoulders? Have you taken the truths I have spoken and like a sampler platter of delicious food given it to others to sample? Or did you just eat it yourself and then forget it? I have spoken what is to come to pass again and again through her. Now you shall see what I have spoken come to pass. For those with spiritual ears to hear and spiritual eyes to see you will know what is to come, what to do, what to expect, for those who choose to remain deaf and blind you will continue to mock, continue to seek a refuge and there shall be found none.”
Satan will unleash the spirit of war on MY Children to a greater degree. You have been warned. Say not that “I AM” did not warn you. Fear not, just call upon ME and I shall deliver you by MY ALMIGHTY HAND! But I shall only protect those that are covered in MY Son’s shed Blood. There is only one remission for sin, one Blood that is Holy and pure that can wash the stench of sin away. No one is perfect; all must be covered in the Holy Saving Blood of YAHUSHUA, the only way to MY throne of grace. The coming months will only get worse in the eyes of the world but for MY babies that lay in the palm of MY hand I shall shelter and protect them with MY other hand.

Strive not or worry not, be anxious for nothing, lean not unto thy own understanding but in all thy ways acknowledge ME, pray to ME, seek ME, love ME, obey ME and I shall not disappoint MY faithful ones who do this. Hide under the shelter of MY wings till this evil passes over. Put the Blood of YAHUSHUA on your mind, body, spirit, and soul. Place it on your doors and windows so the demons cannot enter in. Speak it in faith and then hold on tight to the hem of YAHUSHUA’s garment, his robe of righteousness and don’t let go. The darkness of man’s soul shall be represented in the eclipse, the darkness of the sin covering the land, the darkness where MY light is not welcome. Oh I will grieve for what I have to do, yet it has been pre-ordained, pre-told, you have been forewarned if you study MY WORD.
Prophecy 123 Devastation Is Coming! Devastation Is Here!
But I want to encourage—if your house is built on the SOLID ROCK and not on the sinking sand, if your ANCHOR is YAHUSHUA MASHIACH and you live each day to please ME, if I & MY SON and the SWEET RUACH HA KODESH are the FIRST LOVES of your life—oh MY darling ones:

You have NOTHING to fear. Your DADDY is HERE.

If you hold up the Standard of Holiness

And you speak out AGAINST unholiness:

You have NOTHING to fear. For your DADDY YAH is HERE.

When you are willing to be hated for MY SON YAHUSHUA’S NAME’S sake and you are persecuted and called all manner of evil names:

Be assured your DADDY YAH is HERE. I see all. I know all. I hear all. I see every tear that falls. They are so precious to ME. They are in vials (Ps 56:8), encrusted with gems in Heaven. And when you come Home, all the times you thought that you were alone and [thought] I did not hear you cry. I’M going to show you those vials: I’M going to open them up, and you’re going to see the sweet fragrance that comes forth… And you will remember, I was there ALL along.
For when you cry for righteousness sake, like MY Prophet is now, those tears are put in a vial. And each one’s gems are different, for only I know the price you pay. But don’t give up! Don’t you quit! For great, great, great are your rewards that are awaiting you in Heaven. And when your job on this earth is done, I will welcome you and say, “Job well done!”
I love enough to warn. And I’ve been doing it for many years. Read the Holy Scriptures. I AM the same YAHUVEH that both blesses and curses, wounds and heals (Dt 32:39). I AM the same YAHUVEH that raises the dead. I AM the same YAHUVEH that either gives judgment or salvation. I have not changed. MY SON YAHUSHUA has not changed. The SWEET RUACH HA KODESH has not changed. The HOLY SPIRIT convicts. It is your choice whether you obey.
For WE, the HOLY TRINITY, have not changed.
Torah Portion: Free To Return To YAHUVEH
Prophecy 119 – 2011 A Call To Repent Or Perish, YAH Has Your Number
It’s not you Elisabeth [Elisheva]; it’s not you I’m talking about”. HE said, “It’s those who do not answer. It’s (those in) the world who refuse to answer the call to repent, knowing that I have warned. Only those who are counted worthy will escape the Great Tribulation. It’s those who know what they are doing and offend ME and continue on in their sin, who say I have the Holy Spirit within yet they continue on with their sin, (those) who make excuses knowing I watch everything that they do whether it be porn, whether it be homosexuality, whether it be booze, whether it be adultery, fornication, drunkenness, drugs, cursing, they know I watch, they know they are to be an example, they claim the name of Jesus Christ, even YAHUSHUA and yet I am far from them. The Holy Spirit can not dwell in a Tabernacle of sin, yet they test ME again and again.

I issued a call to repent, how few have listened. It’s like a telephone that rings and rings and no one answers. I put you on a media far and wide, I put you there to show that I am a God of judgment as well as mercy, I do not lie. Yet they abuse the Prophet, they call MY Ministry evil, they dare ME and they mock and they say, nothing is going to happen to us, Elisabeth [Elisheva] go away. They say it is all by grace it’s been done at the cross. Now I can sin all I want, see my souls not lost. It’s you, you live by the law, you think you have to obey this God you say and yet we say there is no such thing as sin it’s been done away.

They hate you (Elisabeth [Elisheva]) with a passion; they hate all who will preach against sin. They hate all who warn. You issued a call, I sent you there Amightywind to warn the people who call themselves Christians to repent of their sins. I’ve said it again, and again, and again. How few will listen.

I sent Amightywind Ministry to YouTube and what they have done unto you they do to ME and yet they claim MY Holy Name and yet I am far from them. They quote MY Words, they use them as a weapon against you and everyone else who warns to repent and seek YAHUSHUA’S face before HE wipes them off the world in HIS rage.

They forget I was only that Lamb once. They forget I’m coming with fire in MY eyes. They forget it’s the wrath of the Lamb. They forget that sin I despise. They make excuses to sin and those who are held most accountable are those who have abused, mocked, hated and slandered a Ministry that I named Amightywind.

So Elisabeth [Elisheva] I let you hear the telephone ring. I want you to warn them once again. How few have answered the call to repent and turn away from sin. How few are going to be saved when the Great Tribulation begins.

It’s not enough to say repent, there must be action behind those words. There must be a renting (rending-shredding violently) and tearing of your garments, but not in a physical way. I have said repent. I have placed this Holy Ministry there for all the world to see if they choose too and yet the majority have closed their ears and blinded their eyes, they say we do not see, we do not hear you and Amightywind Ministry and Prophet Elisabeth Elijah [Elisheva Eliyahu] it’s you we despise. We are the Christian community and no matter what you say take your Amightywind Ministry and take your Prophecies away for we will continue in our sin and you see, we’re still alive and it doesn’t matter if Amightywind Ministry we despise for your God hasn’t killed us yet. Your God hasn’t even touched us so your God must not be our God because our God says we can sin. Our God says we can hate you. Our God says we can destroy Amightywind. Our God says you are a false prophet and there is no need to repent of our sins.

Oh, but you foolish, foolish people this is I, YAHUSHUA, who speaks through this vessel of clay. You have tempted ME and tempted ME and tempted ME and I have used this Ministry for a call to repent and yet you say it’s the devil that’s been sent. You forget what I did to the fig tree. You forget it was I, YAHUSHUA that cursed it for it refused to bear good fruit. You forget it withered and died. You forget there is a reprobate that I despise. That fig tree represents you with a heart of stone, you who use MY Words, you who use MY name, you who call the Ministry evil because you heard the word repent and turn from your sins. You hate that I have spoken and you call her a false prophet because you think you have all knowledge and yet I tell you, you are a fool for revelations are given to this Prophet, yet you think you know everything. Yet, I call you a biblical educated fool for you just use the word that killeth and there is no spirit in what you say and you use the Holy Scriptures and say only the King James Version is going to do, away with all the rest of you, you’ve added to it extra books and no we’re not even going to take a look.

Foolish, foolish ones, I look at your life and I shake MY head. You are the ones if you do not repent and truly turn away from sin, you are the ones I’ll say away from ME you workers of iniquity for I have never known you. Just because you said a salvation prayer you must put action behind your words, you can not just say that you love ME and not obey ME. This is a lie straight from hell. This is a lie and because this Ministry is the one who tells you and every Ministry that walks in MY holiness that refuses to compromise with sin and with sinners. You who call yourselves the Christians there is no holiness in you and you despise anyone who comes to you with the Spirit of Holiness and with MY anointing upon their face and it’s not changed from times of old. You despise anyone who speaks MY Words, who are anointed and bold and so I’ve given Elisabeth [Elisheva] a sign as you go very soon into what you call another year. There has been a call to repent and oh, how few, how few are listening or even hear the telephone ringing.

Don’t you yet understand? Don’t you yet understand? The only way into heaven you must answer the call. You must hear that telephone ring. You must answer the call to repent and turn away from sin, stop making excuses because soon it’s going to be too late.

Teaching

Welcome to Nitzavim /You Are Standing, this week’s Torah portion.

“You are standing [nitzavim] today in the presence of YAHUVEH your GOD ….  You are standing here in order to enter into a covenant with YAHUVEH your GOD.”  (Deuteronomy 29:10–12)

Last week, Parasha Ki Tavo (When You Enter) concluded with Moses telling the people that 40 years after they had attained nationhood, they still had not acquired “a heart to know, eyes to see and ears to hear” all that YAHUVEH had done for them throughout their wilderness journey.  (Deuteronomy 29:2–4)

In this week’s portion, YAHUVEH confronts the people to choose now HIS way of life and blessings or the pagan way of death and curses.

Free to Choose Good

In Parasha Nitzavim, YAHUVEH sets before the Jewish People two diametrically opposed choices:  life and good, or death and evil
(et ha’chayim v’e ha’tov; v’e hamavet v’e hara).

Just as a good father might instruct his son or daughter as to the best decision to make, YAHUVEH implores HIS children to choose life.

“This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses.  Now choose life, so that you and your children may live.” (Deuteronomy 30:19)

This verse provides an incredible insight into the purpose of the Torah.

YAHUVEH gave the Scriptures to us as a guide so we know what is good and what is evil; nevertheless, it is up to each of us to either live according to YAHUVEH’s Word by accepting the good and rejecting the evil or to live according to the dictates of our own heart and the current cultural perspective or worldview.

This is the concept of free will that YAHUVEH has given to mankind.

Free to Choose Life in Adversity

While it is not possible to control all the circumstances that affect our lives, we can determine how we will react to them.

It might be easier to be happy or be nice when everything is going well, but there is no guarantee that we will be happy or nice even in the midst of good times.

Likewise, tragic circumstances do not have to shake us from our firm foundation so that we lose faith in YAHUVEH and become miserable and bitter.

One Messianic Prophecy Bible team member tells the story of an older woman whose son had passed away from cancer, leaving behind a lovely young wife with three small children.

“They were an observant, Orthodox Jewish family, and I wondered how they would react to such a terrible tragedy,” she said.  “It was then that I overheard the woman speaking to a friend on the phone.  Her words were full only of honor toward YAHUVEH, frequently uttering, Baruch HASHEM (Blessed be he’s NAME).

“It reminded me of how Job was able to say, ‘HE gives and HE takes away.  Baruch Hashem,’ after losing his health, his children and his livelihood.”  (Job 1:21)

Even under extreme physical and emotional stress, we can choose our behavior — whether to love and forgive — or remain in hatred and bitterness.

Most of us will never have to endure such brutal conditions, but each one of us will be presented with choices throughout our lives.

We must choose whether or not to be courageous, unselfish and faithful; or bow to fear, fight for our own way, and lose our human dignity, especially during serious adversity.

The truth is that we always have the ability to walk in accordance with the values of the Torah or to walk along that broad path that leads to destruction.

We would do well to consider carefully our ways as we prepare to enter into the Days of Awe this weekend.

Free to Return to YAHUVEH

Sunday begins a ten-day period called Days of Awe (Yamim Nora’im) that ushers in Rosh HaShanah (the Jewish calendar New Year 5779) and ends with Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement).

These ten days are meant to be a period of somber introspection during which time we pray for forgiveness of our sins — and ask for forgiveness from those we have sinned against throughout the year.

The repentance required at the time of these upcoming Fall Feasts of YAHUVEH is meant to bring each person back to GOD.

In YAHUSHUA’s day, people came to Yochanan /John the Baptist at the Jordan River during this season of preparation for the Fall Feasts, to be immersed in the mikvah /baptized.  There, he warned them that they must produce fruit demonstrating their repentance.

“John said to the crowds coming out to be baptized by him, ‘You brood of vipers!  Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?  Produce fruit in keeping with repentance.’”  (Luke 3:7–8)

The Hebrew word for repentance, t’shuvah, comes from the root shuv, meaning return.

In other words, when we choose the path of sin, evil and death, it leads us out of the presence of YAHUVEH.  And when we repent, we return to the presence of YAHUVEH.

We learn in this Parasha, that the result of unrepented sin for the Israelites would be even more than personal separation — it would also be national exile.

But Baruch YAHUVEH, exile is not the end of the story.

In this Parasha, YAHUVEH tells the Israelites that those who will be scattered into exile due to sin, would be gathered back to the Promised Land when they returned to HIM.  And after HE gathers and returns them to their own land, HE would bless and prosper HIS people Israel.

“When you and your children return to YAHUVEH your GOD and obey HIM with all your heart and with all your soul according to everything I command you today, then YAHUVEH your GOD will restore your fortunes and have compassion on you and gather you again from all the nations where HE scattered you.”  (Deuteronomy 30:2–3)

Still, today many believe that it is just too hard to obey YAHUVEH or keep the Torah.

In this Parasha, YAHUVEH tell us that it is not too difficult for us to walk in obedience:

“Now what I am commanding you today is not too difficult for you or beyond your reach….  The word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey it.”  (Deuteronomy 30:11–14)

Moreover, there are many rewards for being obedient.

These rewards are not relegated to olam habah /the world to come but are also for our lives here and now.

They are not only spiritual rewards for when we get to Heaven; they are also physical, material, and emotional rewards such as long life, prosperity, and success for today.

Yet, evil persists, and we know that even the obedient ones fall prey at times to the oppression and attacks of the enemy and to a world that is fallen.  YAHUSHUA even said that “in this world you will have trouble.  But take heart!  I have overcome the world.”  (John 16:33)

Those who have troubles do not have to succumb to fear.

Scripture tells us that the enemy cannot take away from us many good things: our freedom to choose good; our faith in YAHUVEH of Israel; and our faith in YAHUSHUA as our Messiah, who sacrificed HIS own life to release us from spiritual bondage so we can be truly experience freedom in this life.

No matter how bleak things look at any given moment, YAHUVEH will show us evidence of HIS goodness and mercy while we are yet on this earth.

As King David said, “I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of YAHUVEH in the land of the living.”
(Psalm 27:13)

Choosing life entails loving YAHUVEH with all of our heart, mind, soul, and strength, listening to the voice of  RUACH HA KODESH /Holy Spirit and keeping HIS commandments.  Doing so is the very best choice we could ever make — for this is our very life!

“Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love YAHUVEH your GOD, listen to HIS voice, and hold fast to HIM.  For YAHUVEH is your life, and HE will give you many years in the land HE swore to give to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.”
(Deuteronomy 30:20)
